Charged with child endangerment and obstructing the administration of law, the deputy chief of the East Prospect Fire Department has resigned.

June 17--An embattled East Prospect deputy fire chief resigned from his post earlier this month.

Marlin James Mellinger, 55, of 1718 Long Level Road, resigned during the first week of June, Fire Chief Jerry Hansen said in email on Friday.

Mellinger also resigned from the Lower Windsor Township board of supervisors and the township planning commission last week.

He is charged with child endangerment and obstructing the administration of law for allegedly not aiding state police in February in their search for a missing 17-year-old girl.

Mellinger didn't give troopers the girl's cellphone number, in an effort to cover up a sexual relationship he had with her, state police had said.

The girl was found unharmed. Mellinger has not been charged for his alleged relationship with her.
