June 22--A Wichita firefighter was hospitalized Saturday morning after a blaze destroyed a vacant house in the1500 block of North Grove.

The firefighter suffered "possible heat-related issues" after helping to extinguish the fire, which was reported about 1:30 a.m., said Lt. Troy Thissen, a Wichita fire investigator. The firefighter was taken to Wesley Medical Center in serious condition, he said.

The house sustained $50,000 in damage, but what ignited the blaze remains under investigation, Thissen said Saturday. The flames created heat too intense for firefighters to enter the building, which was fully engulfed with fire when they arrived, he said.
