July 03--DURHAM -- A firefighter and two civilians pulled an unconscious woman from her duplex Tuesday, authorities said.
Chief Dan Curia of the Durham Fire Department said firefighters were called at 4:35 p.m. to a duplex at 2414 Nebo St., near N.C. Central University.
Smoke was visible from the front door of the duplex's left side but the residence was not engulfed in flames, he said. A neighbor was "yelling that someone had passed out inside" and couldn't be revived, Curia said.
A Durham fire battalion chief went inside and found the woman passed out on the living room floor. She pulled the woman to safety with help from two civilians who were working in the area, Curia said.
The woman's identity and condition were unavailable Wednesday, but Curia said she regained consciousness at the scene and was transported to Duke University Hospital. No one else was injured.
Twenty-one firefighters from four stations were at the scene of the single-story, wood-frame duplex for about 80 minutes.
Curia said the Red Cross was not notified.
Damage to the duplex was described as moderate, confined mainly to the kitchen. The cause is being investigated.
