Fireworks ignited a brush fire that threatened four homes.

July 05--Vallejo firefighters successfully battled two fires by Thursday afternoon.

The first, reported just before 8 a.m. at 60 Scenic Drive, was a fire that appears to have begun naer the home's water heater, Battalion Chief Pat Dunn said.

The single person in the house at the time of the fire was able to escape without injury, and no others were injured during the fire fight, Dunn said.

The fire did spread to the home's attic, requiring roof ventilation, Dunn added.

The single-alarm fire was under control in about two and a half hours and is preliminarily estimated to have caused about $85,000 in damage, Dunn said.

The second fire, reported around 1:42 p.m. on the 200 block of Sage Street, spread across four residential backyards in a quarter of acre, fire officials said. The source of the fire appeared to have been people using fireworks, Dunn said.

Though nearby structures were endangered by the flames, firefighters were able to keep the blaze from reaching any homes. A property-line fence, however, was damaged in the fire, firefighters said.
