Georgia Firefighter Critical After Hit by Car at Crash

July 11--A Macon-Bibb County firefighter is listed in critical condition at The Medical Center of Central Georgia after he was struck by a motorist Thursday morning.

Lt. Sean Defoe of the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said the firefighter, whose name is being withheld by officials, was working to clean up a wreck on Interstate 75 northbound about 9:40 a.m. near the Sardis Church Road exit along with other firefighters and deputies.

While the firefighter was speaking to a deputy, a vehicle driven by Nayef Mohammad Shroof, 18, of Warner Robins, struck the firefighter, Defoe said.

The firefighter is undergoing surgery at the Medical Center.

Defoe said the case is currently under investigation.
