July 16--A 2-year-old boy was rushed to a Macon-Bibb County fire station early Monday night after he went underwater at Lake Hampton in west Jones County.

The boy's mother and grandmother drove him to the Shurling Drive fire station at about 6:30 p.m. where firefighters gave him oxygen. He was having trouble breathing, said Lt. Ronnie Heslop.

The boy's breathing improved, and he was transferred to The Medical Center of Central Georgia by ambulance, Heslop said.

Jones County deputies also drove to the fire station to investigate the boy's near drowning and to write an accident report. The boy's grandmother ran off the road and damaged her car while driving to the fire station, Heslop said.
