N.H. Man Sentenced for Stealing Fire Truck

July 19--A Keene man who was drunk and took a city fire truck for a ride was sentenced recently in Cheshire County Superior Court to jail time.

Scott Ibelle, 29, was sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to driving with a suspended license, driving while intoxicated, taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, and criminal trespass. He was credited with 200 days already served.

On July 14, 2012, Ibelle entered the Keene Fire Department on Vernon Street and drove away in fire truck, according to court documents. The crimes are all misdemeanors.

In addition to the year in jail, his driver's license was revoked for an additional two years, and he will have to install an ignition lock for a year after he gets his license back.

He was also fined $750 plus court fees and ordered to undergo a substance abuse evaluation. He was sentenced to an additional year in jail, which will be suspended if he enters a drug treatment program, and another year behind bars on top of that, all suspended. He was placed on probation for two years upon his release from jail, and ordered to pay $5,508 restitution to the city of Keene and to its insurance provider. A charge of burglary was dismissed by prosecutors.

Other recently resolved Superior Court cases include:

Brenna Whalen, 39, of Holyoke, Mass., was sentenced to a year in jail, all suspended, for passing a forged prescription in March 2008 in Winchester. She was credited with six days served, placed on probation for three years, and fined $350 plus court fees.

Daniel Black, 47, of Winchester was sentenced to nine months in jail, all suspended, after pleading guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief. He admitted kicking in a door at a house in Winchester last August. He was placed on probation for a year, which could be reduced to six months if he stays out of trouble, and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim. A felony charge of burglary was dismissed by prosecutors.

Joshua Streicher, 26, of Jaffrey was sentenced to a year in jail, with 11 months suspended and the rest of the time to be served on weekends, after pleading guilty to burglary. He admitted breaking into a Jaffrey home in April 2012. He was ordered to pay $286 restitution and was placed on probation for two years. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim or her immediate family.

Andrew Huntley, 43, who has addresses listed in Sullivan and Roxbury, was sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to misdemeanor simple assault. He was recommended for work release and ordered to have a drug and alcohol evaluation and an anger management evaluation. He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to have no contact with the victim. He was initially charged with felony second-degree assault, but that charge was downgraded. He admitted punching someone in the face, damaging the victim's tooth, last July in Keene.

Emily Hanscome, 27, of Manchester was sentenced to a year in jail, all suspended, after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor counts of possessing drugs in Keene in March 2012. She was initially charged with felonies of possessing heroin and of possessing cocaine, but the charges were downgraded. She was fined $350, plus court fees, all suspended, and placed on probation for two years. A charge of endangering the welfare of a child was dismissed by prosecutors.
