July 21--Maryland Transportation Authority police on Sunday identified the driver of a vehicle that was knocked off the Bay Bridge Friday as Morgan Jade Lake of Sunderland.
Lake, 22, was driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring on the eastbound span of the bridge at around 8:25 p.m. when it was involved in an accident with a tractor-trailer and a 2014 Mazda, MDTA Police spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Green said.
Lake's vehicle went over the guard rail and fell approximately 40 feet into the bay. The tractor-trailer and Mazda remained on the bridge.
Once in the water, Lake got out of her car and swam to a nearby jetty at Sandy Point State Park, police said. She eventually was rescued and transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. She was released on Saturday.
The accident shut down the eastbound span of the bridge for several hours. It reopened early Saturday morning. Lake's car was removed from the water later Saturday.
Attempts to reach Lake Sunday were not immediately successful.
The driver of the tractor-trailer has been identified as Gabor Lovasz of Charlottetown, Canada. He was not injured.
Neither the driver of the Mazda, Herbert Alfred Sutcliffe Jr., of Olney, nor his passenger, Lisa Sutcliffe, also of Olney, were injured.
Police are still trying to determine the sequence of events that led to the crash, Green said.
"There's still a lot of work to do with this investigation," he said.
