July 23--A Bel Air firefighter suffered minor burns as fire raged through a home in Forest Hill shortly after midnight Tuesday morning, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office reported.
The fire in the single-story, wood-frame home in the 200 block of Marshall Drive was reported just before 12:25 a.m., the Fire Marshal's Office said.
The fire, which started in the basement, caused an estimated $250,000 damage to the dwelling and $50,000 to its contents, according to the Fire Marshal's notice of investigation.
The unidentified firefighter from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company was transported to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore, where he was treated and released, the Fire Marshal's Office said.
At least 30 firefighters from Bel Air, Fallston, Joppa-Magnolia and Jarrettsville volunteer fire companies responded and controlled the fire within 30 minutes, the Fire Marshal's Office said.
The cause of the fire, which was discovered by a neighbor, remains under investigation, according to the notice of investigation.
No one was at home when the fire started. The owner, identified by the Fire Marshal's Office as John Collican, was away on vacation at the time and returned after being notified, according to the notice of investigation.
Tuesday's fire was the second in the neighborhood in the past eight months. A home in the 100 block of Marshall Drive sustained an estimated $300,000 damage from a fire on the evening of Oct. 31, 2012.
