The 28-year-old driver was charged with improper backing and operating a vehicle while intoxicated on Thursday in Norwalk.

July 27--A new Norwalk fire truck sustained "scuffs and a dent" following an accident Thursday evening on West Main Street.

Edgar E. Ramos, 28, of 64 Key Drive, was charged with improper backing and operating a vehicle while intoxicated on West Main Street.

At about 6:40 p.m., Capt. John Soisson was operating a 2013 Norwalk Fire Department rescue truck and made a right turn from Whittlesey Avenue onto West Main Street. Soisson, who was riding with Lt. Steve Eggleston, had the green light and was operating in nonemergency status.

Ramos reportedly backed from a parking space in front of 2 W. Main St. and failed to see the fire truck. Ramos' vehicle struck the fire department vehicle, causing minor damage to both vehicles.

Norwalk Fire Capt. Dan Hunt said Ramos' insurance will pay for the damage. Hunt added he took the truck into a shop for a monetary estimate of damage, which he has yet to receive.
