Two people made it out of a house fire with burns and smoke inhalation injuries, but one person is dead and another missing after the Vegas blaze.

Aug. 09--One person was found dead and another was missing in a house fire late Thursday in northwest Las Vegas. Two other people who made it out of the house were taken to a hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

The fire was reported at 11:53 p.m. at a house at 9209 Empire Rock Street, in the area of Iron Mountain Road and U.S. 95, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The pair who escaped the fire told neighbors that two elderly people were still inside the burning home, Szymanski said. Firefighters found one person dead and had not located the other person as of about 4 a.m. today. Extensive damage made the search difficult, Szymanski said.

Neighbors indicated that the people who escaped the fire, also described as elderly, lived at the house, Szymanski said. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The other two people at the house were visiting, Szymanski said.

The bulk of the fire was extinguished within an hour and the fire was under control by 1:30 a.m., Szymanski said. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
