Aug. 09--An elderly woman was critically injured and six people were displaced this morning after a two-story apartment complex fire in Thousand Oaks, officials said.

The blaze was reported about 8 a.m. in the 2000 block of Los Feliz Drive and was knocked down in about 25 minutes, said Ventura County Fire Capt. Mike Lindbery.

The fire started in the first story apartment, where the woman lived, and carried over into the second story units.

Lindbery said the woman is handicapped and might have had a difficult time getting out of the apartment.

She was taken to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks with critical injuries, Lindbery said.

Two adults were displaced from one of the upstairs apartment, and two adults and two kids were displaced from the other. The American Red Cross was on scene to assist them with housing.

It is unclear if the first story apartment had a working smoke detector and the exact cause of the fire is under investigation, Lindbery said.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office, Southern California Edison and The Gas Company assisted during the incident, officials said.
