Two tow truck drivers also joined the rescue effort.

Aug. 13--A Windsor Township man was rescued from underneath his tractor by a team of firefighters and tow truck operators Monday.

Family members identified the man as David Moll, 81, of the 900 block of Pine Street. He was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown, and was in critical condition Monday night.

Moll's daughter, Brenda McCauley, said her father had just completed some grass mowing with a sickle bar mower attached to the tractor when he became trapped underneath. The family does not know what led to the accident.

A neighbor, Ben Fonon, heard Moll screaming and alerted the family and emergency responders.

"It was a scary situation just seeing him laying there under the tractor," McCauley said. "We were praying for him as they got him out."

Hamburg Fire Company officials were dispatched to the farm at about 3:30 p.m. The tractor eventually shut off, Fire Chief Troy R. Hatt said, but the man was still trapped underneath.

Firefighters from Shoemakersville and Virginville fire companies were soon called to assist.

Hatt said two employees who were driving a tow truck nearby for Patriot Collision Center & Auto Recovery in Hamburg provided much-needed assistance.

The towing service workers saw that traffic was blocked off around the farm and stopped to ask if they could do anything to help.

"Thank God for that," Hatt said. "Having the tow truck, I'll tell you what -- it made a big difference."

Using the tow truck and firefighters' equipment, the group was able to lift the tractor off the man, Hatt said.

Hatt said the work of all three fire departments and the towing service workers is to be commended.
