Canadian Firefighters Pause to Remember Fallen

Sept. 9, 2013
Nine firefighters who died in the line of duty were remembered in Canada on Sunday.

Firefighters from across Canada paused Sunday to honor their fallen heroes.

The names of nine firefighters who died in the line of duty last year were added to the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

During the 10th annual ceremony, the names of 47 firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice during other years also were added, according to 1310 News.

Families of the fallen heroes attended a number of events throughout the weekend. In addition to grief sessions, there were luncheons and other activities to allow the loved ones and fellow firefighters to mingle.

The Sunday memorial service began with a parade from the Garden of the Provinces and Territories Park to the memorial.

At least 1,000 men and women in uniform were out to pay their respects, including pipe band players, reporters noted.
