Sept. 20--Police say a driver ran a red light and crashed into a fire truck at a major Wilson intersection Wednesday.

A Sims Community Rural Volunteer Fire Department truck was turning onto Lamm Road from Raleigh Road Parkway when Shonda Tomeka Evans of 2 Walkenwood Court in Durham hit the truck in a 1998 Chevrolet passenger car, according to a police report.

Witnesses told officers at the scene that Evans failed to stop for a red light on Raleigh Road Parkway.

Jeffrey Chad Wrenn, 24, of Countryside Road outside Wilson, was driving the Sims fire truck.

No one was injured in the 1:29 p.m. crash. The fire truck sustained about $10,000 in damage but was still driveable, the police report states. The car Evans was driving sustained $8,000 in damage and was towed away.

Police wrote Evans a citation on a charge of failing to stop for a steady red light.
