Sept. 22, 2013
An apartment complex fire in Tulsa has displaced nearly three dozen people.

Sept. 21--As many as 32 families or individuals could be displaced after a Friday afternoon apartment fire, officials said.

The Tulsa Fire Department was called to the London Square Apartments, at 59th Street and Lewis Avenue, about 3:20 p.m., a dispatcher said.

About 40 firefighters responded and contained the blaze within 30 minutes, Capt. Stan May said.

The fire started in an upstairs apartment of a 32-unit building in the complex's northwest corner. An investigator was dispatched to determine its cause.

Electricity to the building was turned off as firefighters battled the flames. May said it's unclear whether power will be restored this evening.

Two apartments sustained fire and water damage, and nine apartments were affected by smoke, he said.

No injuries were reported.

Volunteers with the Tulsa Area Chapter of the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced residents.
