The blaze sent billows of black smoke over the area.

A massive fire at an Opa-locka recycling yard on Monday morning sent thick clouds of black smoke into the sky west of Interstate 95.

Tires and cars burned at Trademark Metals Recycling, 3440 NW 135th St.

More than two dozen units worked the fire, which involved hundreds of junked cars.

Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue was dispatched just before 10 a.m. Monday and arrived to “a large mound” of recycling material on fire, spokeswoman Michelle Fayed said.

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm.

“It will be an extended operation,” Fayed said.

The Miami-Dade hazmat team also monitored the situation.
