Oct. 23--ATLANTIC CITY -- Fire officials are continuing to investigate suspicious fire that heavily damaged a vacant home Tuesday night, and injured one firefighter.

Firefighters responded to the three-story home at 328 N. Indiana Ave. around 5:40 p.m., Fire Chief Dennis Brooks said. Firefighters could see the smoke from Fire Station 2 nearby.

Firefighter Frankie Walsh suffered burns to his neck and hands making entry into the building with a hoseline, Brooks said. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where he was treated and released.

Walsh was expected to be seen by a city doctor Wednesday.

The building was boarded up and the utilities turned off, making it appear that the fire's cause was suspicious, Brooks said.

He estimated the damage to the building at $70,000, and said the fire also damaged a neighboring property at 326 N. Indiana Ave.

It took the 35 firefighters at the scene nearly a half-hour to bring the fire under control

A routine investigation also must be done because the firefighter was injured, including checking his gear, Brooks said.
