Detroit Hit by Several Commercial Blazes

Seven structures and three vehicles burned Thursday night into Friday.

Oct. 25--Detroit firefighters have been battling blazes in a series of commercial buildings overnight, an official said.

The first fire began early today in an automotive shop near 7 Mile and State Fair, Detroit Fire Department Senior Chief Jack Wiley said. The second fire was spotted in a commercial building on Telegraph near 6 Mile Road. At 6:30 a.m., firefighters had a fire under control in a building in the 16000 block of John R.

All three were in smaller businesses, in buildings of about 1,800 square feet, Wiley added. No one was hurt in the blazes.

"They've been catching them and putting them out before they get out of hand," Wiley said.

The blazes are among at least seven structure fires, three vehicle fires and an arson arrest being handled by two Detroit Fire Department Arson Unit investigators staffed today, Capt. Patrick McNulty said. Anyone with information is asked to call the state's Arson Reward line at 1-800-44ARSON.
