Shredded appliances and plastics are making the firefight tough.

GREENSBORO — Firefighters are putting foam on a fire at D.H. Griffin that is complicated by a large amount of plastics in the fire, according to officials.

"It's shredded appliances, which have a high plastic content," said Clarence Hunter, chief deputy with Greensboro Fire Department. "There are a lot of wires and hoses."

Firefighters were called to the fire at 4716 Hilltop Road at 8:05 a.m.

The fire is producing a large amount of black smoke, which can be seen for a distance.

It's not yet known what started the fire, Hunter said.

Police have blocked off Hilltop Road at Chaucher Road and Pennoak Drive due to the fire.
