Oct. 28--A mother and her young son were killed in a Washington County fire that started late Sunday.

Firefighters were called to the scene on Wigington Road in Buffalo Township just after 11 p.m.

The victims have been identified as Lisa Marie Hewitt, 27, and Timothy Hewitt Jr., 5, according to Coroner Tim Warco. They were pronounced dead Monday at 6:35 a.m.

Officials said Lisa Hewitt called 911 and told dispatchers that she and her son were trapped on the second floor of the home. Dispatchers said the call then dropped out.

When firefighters arrived, the first floor was fully engulfed in flames.

Officials are not yet sure what started the fire, but said it does not appear suspicious. Autopsies are pending, Warco said.

The state police fire marshal in Washington County is investigating.
