Texas Worker Impaled in Abdomen by Pipe

It took rescue personnel more than an hour to free the man who was impaled in the abdomen.

Oct. 30--A worker impaled at a gas well site Monday morning made it through surgery and appears to be doing better, Grandview Fire Chief Johnathan O'Bar said Tuesday.

Firefighters from Grandview, Venus, Alvarado and Johnson County Emergency Services District No. 1 responded at 11:02 a.m. to the 1700 block of County Road 105A.

O'Bar said the victim is in his early thirties but said he did not get the man's name.

Workers pulled a pipe from a hole at the site, O'Bar said, which fell and impaled the man through the abdomen. It took rescue workers more than an hour to free the man, given that there was a danger of more pipe falling and possibly injuring the victim and the rescue workers.

A helicopter flew the victim to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth.
