Nov. 03--A Tulsa woman was arrested on first-degree murder and arson complaints after a man died in an early Sunday fire at an abandoned south Tulsa apartment.

Doreatha Poland, 27, was jailed just after noon Sunday. She was ordered held without bond on the murder complaint. A $20,000 bond was set for the arson complaint.

Tulsa Fire Department Capt. Stan May said TFD got the call at 4:30 a.m., and when they arrived at the apartments at 63rd Street and Peoria Avenue, they found Poland outside.

Inside the apartments, which had been boarded up and deemed unsafe, investigators found the man's body in a room, where most of the fire had been contained, May said. The victim has not been identified by law enforcement. His death is Tulsa's 56th homicide of 2013.

"It appeared several people had been living in that building," May said. "But when we arrived, the victim and (Poland) were the only ones on the scene."

May said TFD investigators, as well as investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Tulsa Police Department determined the fire had been purposefully set, and arrested Poland.
