Baltimore Engine Catches Fire in Station

Nov. 16, 2013
Engine 50 had just returned from a call when Baltimore firefighters discovered the fire.

Nov. 15--Yes, it's as ironic as it sounds -- mechanical issues caused a Baltimore fire engine to catch fire in its quarters Friday, fire department spokesman Ian Brennan said.

Engine 50 had just returned from a call when the fire started, he said, and the flames were quickly contained. The engine operates out of a firehouse at 1601 Broening Highway and services more than 20 neighborhoods in the area, according to the department's website.

No one was injured in the incident, Brennan said. The exact cause and the amount of damage to the truck is still under investigation.
