Nov. 18--FONTANA -- San Bernardino County firefighters rescued their own after a paramedic squad from the department and the patient they were trying to get to an ambulance became stuck in an apartment complex elevator.

The incident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in the 16900 block of Orange Way. Paramedics went to the complex on a medical aid call. Three paramedics and three staff from American Medical Response were moving the non-critical patient from their apartment to an ambulance when they became stuck in the elevator, according to a county Fire Department news release.

A county Fire Department ladder truck and the Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue team were sent to the apartment complex. After several attempts to gain access to the elevator, the team was able to get everyone safely out of the elevator.
