A Troy firefighter is expected to be OK after he was struck by a heavy light fixture that fell on him while he battled a house fire.

Nov. 26--TROY -- A firefighter was injured Tuesday morning when a light fixture fell on him as he was battling a Fourth Avenue house fire.

Crews were called to 331 Fourth Ave. in Lansingburgh around 7 a.m. for heavy smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the two-family house.

"While he fought the flames a large four-bulb fluorescent light fixture fell from a ceiling and hit him," said Assistant Chief Jim Hughes, who did not identify the man. "It was a pretty big fixture and he was taken to the hospital to be checked out. I think he'll be okay but he'll be out for a few days."

Hughes said it was an accidental electrical fire which started on the second floor and extended into the attic.

Three adults who lived in the home escaped unharmed as did three cats.
