Cobb County firefighters battled the fire at the Mission Galleria Apartments in Smyrna.

Nov. 28--An early-morning fire destroyed eight units of a Cobb County apartment complex Thursday.

Red Cross volunteers were assisting 32 people with food, lodging and warm clothing after their homes burned at the Mission Galleria Apartments in Smyrna.

"Red Cross caseworkers will continue to work with the families next week to help them get back on their feet and provide referrals for additional help," Sherry Nicholson, a spokeswoman for the agency, said in an emailed statement.

Firefighters brought in sand to melt the ice that formed after extinguishing the blaze.

No injuries were reported.
