Ohio Chief Says Seat Belts Saved Firefighters

Dec. 3, 2013
Two Union Township firefighters were injured in a crash Monday.

Union Township, Ohio Fire Chief Stan Deimling says he believes seat belts made the difference for two of his firefighters.

On Monday, a dump truck struck the fire engine occupied by the two firefighters who were on their way to a conference.

“If you look at the front of the truck, the windshields are actually exploded out the front . When they went over the embankment, if they weren't wearing seat belts, they would have been ejected from the vehicle and been severely injured or worse,” Deimling told a WLWT reporter.

Both firefighters and the driver of the dump truck were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
