Minn. Firefighters Prepare to Salute Fallen Chief

Firefighters in Minnesota are preparing to give a final salute to their chief.

Rice Lake Fire Chief Matt Frantz, 42, died Dec. 9 within 24 hours of an emergency response.

Frantz had responded to the station for a mutual aid call. Hours later while at work as a UPS employee, Frantz died of an apparent heart attack.

He joined the fire department in 2000, and named chief in 2009. Frantz served in the U.S. Army from 1991-1993 and in the Army National Guard until 1998.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13 at St. John's Catholic Church, Duluth.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the same church.
