Dec. 19--MALTA -- Firefighters are investigating an overnight fire that leveled the Dunning Street Dunkin' Donuts shop.

Dunning Street and Blacksmith Drive are both closed to traffic as investigators work at the scene of the fire that was first reported at 3 a.m. Thursday, officials said.

A worker called to report heavy smoke inside the building, according to Peter Shaw, chief of the Malta Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. One firefighter who injured his arm at the scene was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, Shaw said.

Officials said the building is a total loss and the cause is still being investigated.

It is the second overnight fire this month to destroy a fast-food store in Saratoga County.

On Dec. 7, a blaze that also was reported at 3 a.m. broke out at the Saratoga Avenue McDonald's in Waterford. That store was a total loss. Officials said an accidental grease fire sparked the inferno.

No one was injured in that fire.
