Dec. 23--NEW ALBANY -- Seven people were taken to area hospitals after a deck collapsed at the clubhouse in Wolfe Lake subdivision in New Albany Sunday afternoon. None of the injuries appear to be life threatening, according to a release from the New Chapel Fire Company.

New Chapel received a call of the deck collapse at 3:52 p.m. Chief Jamey Noel said in the release there were about 26 people on the deck, posing for a family picture when it collapsed.

"The cause of the collapse is not immediately clear," Noel said. "While I am not an engineer, the main support portion of the deck appears intact. It looks mostly like the center decking is what collapsed, which is a trek style decking."

Noel said luckily, since the deck completely failed, no one was critically injured.

"It was very fortunate that no one was hurt worse than they were," he said.
