Ky. Firefighter Suffers Cracked Ribs in Porch Collapse

A Lexington firefighter is expected back to work today after he suffered cracked ribs when a porch collapsed at a house fire on Thursday.

Dec. 27--A firefighter suffered cracked ribs on duty during a busy Thursday night for the Lexington fire department.

Jeremy Bruner, an 11-year veteran of the department, was released from University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital early Friday and will return to duty Sunday, the department said in a news release.

Bruner was injured when a front porch collapsed as firefighters were extinguishing a fire at 519 East Second Street, the release said.

Three fires kept the department busy Thursday night.

At 10:50 p.m., a fire broke out in a garage on Fox Harbor Drive. At 11:20 p.m., crews responded to the home on East Second Street. The home was significantly damaged. The causes of both fires are under investigation.

Then, at 12:30 a.m. Friday, a fire was reported in a furnace vent on Lisle Avenue. The fire was quickly extinguished.
