A three-alarm fire at the Steel Street Commerce Center in Aliquippa was intentional, the Pennsylvania state fire marshal said.

Jan. 03--The state fire marshal said a fire that ravaged a building in the Aliquippa Industrial Park on Wednesday morning is being investigated as having been intentionally set.

Ten companies responded to the 4:32 a.m. three-alarm fire at Steel Street Commerce Center I, 101 Steel St., which houses Master Halco Inc., a fencing company, and Metalwerks PMD Inc., a processor of specialty metal, Aliquippa Fire Chief David Foringer said.

Based on the square-footage of the industrial building, fire marshal David Jungling said he estimates damages are in excess of $2 million. Master Halco was gutted by the blaze, and Metalwerks sustained minor to moderate damage, he said.

The fire's cause remains under investigation, said Trooper Jungling, who is assisting Aliquippa police.
