Jan. 06--A tractor-trailer caught fire while traveling east on U.S. Route 322 Sunday afternoon, causing the road to be shut down for about an hour, State College police said.

Police took the call a little before 4 p.m. and said the preliminary cause is a rear brake issue. The driver pulled over and tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful, police said.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but it damaged the avocados that the truck was transporting, police said. No one was injured.

Other responders on the scene were Alpha Fire Company, Alpha fire police and Centre LifeLink, police said.
