Jan. 11--Ten people were taken to local hospitals this morning after an extra-alarm fire that spread from one building to two others in the West Side's Little Village neighborhood.
The injured included four children, but all ten were doing well, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
"Nothing serious" in terms of injuries, Langford said.
The fire broke out shortly before 4:30 a.m. in a building in the 2300 block of South Kedzie Avenue. Flames quickly spread to buildings directly north and south, prompting fire officials to elevate it to a 2-11 alarm fire as flames spread to nearby buildings.
Firefighters first brought the blaze under control in buildings where the flames spread. The fire in the building where the blaze started was under control by about 5:50 a.m., according to the Chicago Fire Department.
It is now out, and fire investigators are inside working to determine its cause, Langford said. The Chicago Police Department's Bomb and Arson Unit will be investigating, Langford said.
About 25 people sought temporary refuge at the Engine 109 firehouse across the street from the fire.
