Jan. 15--A fire on Kimball Island in the San Joaquin Delta north of Antioch destroyed three homes and damaged several others, according to spokeswoman at the Solano County Sheriff's Department's dispatch center.
She said the fire was reported at 2:55 p.m and was started by transients. Residents were evacuated from the island, which is accessible only by boat, as firefighters worked to keep the fire from spreading.
As of 8:21 p.m., she said, the dispatch center was advised that fire crews were wrapping up their activities.
