You'd think a college senior majoring in biology and psychology would be busy enough.
But, Stephanie McKinney added firefighting to that schedule the past three years.
That hard work paid off as she was selected chief of the Mud Creek Fire Department in rural Kentucky.
With the most training hours last year in the department, McKinney says her work ethic caught others attention, leading to her being named chief, according to WSAZ.
"It is hard...it is like it's a man's job, a man's world, and I really have to show myself and overcome obstacles. It is fun and there's so much support in this department, they are all rooting for me and it is amazing," McKinney told reporters.
She says she is also thankful for the outpouring of support from all the other departments in Floyd County.
