Feb. 06--ALBANY -- A former assistant chief of the Albany Fire Department has been named as the new fire chief in Manchester.
Roderick B. Jolivette, who is to assume the chief position on Feb. 17, says he's excited about the opportunity to help the fire department of that city and to work with all parties to form a plan that is in everyone's best interest.
"I believe that by working together we can achieve many goals for the Magic City," Jolivette said. "I realize who I work for -- the taxpayers. I believe for every dollar they spend, we should give them $1.50 in service."
Jolivette served 30 years as a firefighter, with much of that time as assistant chief. He has also served as an interim chief of the Cairo Fire Department. Until he begins his duties as chief in Manchester, Jolivette remains employed with the Fire Services Administration at Albany State University.
Jolivette's resume lists a B.A. in Political Science, an AAS in Management and Supervisor Development, and an AAS degree in Fire Science Technology.
Jolivette resigned from the Albany Fire Department in November 2012. In October 2012, Jolivette and the city of Albany settled three lawsuits, two that he had filed against Albany Fire Chief James Carswell and one that he had filed against the city. The City Commission agreed to pay Jolivette a $185,000 settlement.
