Responding N.Y. Assistant Chief Dies of Cardiac Event

The Franklin assistant fire chief with 40 years of volunteer service died after suffering an apparent cardiac event while responding to a call Sunday.

The assistant chief of the Franklin (N.Y.) Volunteer Fire Department suffered an apparent cardiac event while responding to a call Sunday morning and died.

According to a news release from the fire department and the Delaware County Department of Emergency Services, James C. Wilber, a volunteer with 40 years in the fire service, died at Tri-Town Regional Hospital in Sidney after he was transported their by Unadilla Emergency Squad and Cooperstown Medical Transport.

Wilber had spent 39 of his 40 years of volunteer service with the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife Sue, a son Ken, and his sister Debbie.
