Fort Lauderdale firefighters saved the dog from the 14th floor apartment.

Feb. 13--A dog is recovering after being saved from a high-rise fire in Fort Lauderdale, officials said.

Firefighters were called to 3000 Holiday Dr. around 6:46 p.m. Wednesday night. The fire was burning in the kitchen of a 14th floor apartment, according to Division Chief Robert Bacic.

Residents on the smoke-filled 14th floor were evacuated and firefighters had the flames under control quickly, he said.

Crews rescued the dog from the burning apartment and treated the pet with oxygen. The dog was reported to be in good health, he said.

The fire was contained to the kitchen with smoke damage extending to the rest of the apartment and hallway. No injuries were reported, officials said.

Fire investigators were trying to determine late Wednesday what caused the fire.
