Feb. 28--A 61-year-old man died when a New Castle home caught fire late Thursday.
The fire started about 11 p.m. in the first floor of the two-story home in the 700 block of Lathrop Street, New Castle Assistant Fire Chief Tom Bulisco said. The man was asleep in a second-floor bedroom, Bulisco said. His name was not released.
"There was heavy fire in the front room on the front floor," he said.
The fire appears to have been accidental, but no cause has been determined, Bulisco said.
Three other people lived in the home but were not there when the fire started, he said.
Firefighters rushed into the home to rescue the man, WPXI-TV reported, but he died a few minutes later.
There was about $45,000 of damage to the house, which Bulisco said can be repaired.
