March 07--BARSTOW -- A man saved a sleeping woman from a burning home on Colonial Drive early Thursday morning, according to a news release from the Barstow Fire Protection District.
BFPD responded to the incident at 2:24 a.m., as a single-story home in the 600 block of Colonial Drive was on fire. The fire started in the kitchen of the residence and is under investigation.
A man and a woman escaped from the property. The man, Rudy Rivas, contained the fire with a garden hose before fire engines arrived.
According to the news release, the fire was "contained by Mr. Rivas using a garden hose, placing himself in harm's way to effect a rescue of one adult female who was still sleeping."
A crew of six firefighters extinguished the fire in 10 minutes.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, but the blaze caused an estimated $20,000 in damage.
