March 15--HENDERSON, Ky. -- Black clouds covered a portion of Henderson Friday afternoon as a fire spread through a residence on South Main Street and eventually, destroying it.

The Henderson Fire Department battled the blaze, which took hold of the stone and wood structure at 1649 S. Main St., around 1 p.m.

A neighbor, Dennis Belt, said the house was "full engulfed" in flames. "This wind ... there's no controlling it."

It seemed like the wind fed the flames which were still burning even two hours after the initial call came in to Central Dispatch.

"I looked out the window and saw the firetrucks," said Heather Thomas, another neighbor. "Flames were out front and spread to the garage. The house went down really quick. They saved one of the vehicles and a lawn mower."
