Possible Human Remains Found at Calif. Brush Fire Site

March 16--L.A. County sheriff's detectives are investigating a possible homicide after remains that might be human were found Saturday near the site of a brush fire in Gorman, authorities said.

Detectives were called to Ridge Route Road south of California 138 in Gorman to investigate.

A sheriff's spokeswoman said investigators have not determined with certainty whether the remains were human.

The remains included a skull and possibly a shoe, said Lt. Joe Bale with the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

The Gorman fire started Friday afternoon south of California 138 near Quail Lake and has spread to more than 150 acres. As of Saturday morning, the blaze was 65% contained.

The remains were discovered about 11 a.m. Saturday, but it was not known if the body and the fire were connected.
