The cause of the fire is under investigation.

March 22--Firefighters are still investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a small bakery in northeastern Monroe County early Friday morning. But investigators believe the blaze started in the bakery's oven.

Bloomington Township firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at Muddy Fork Farm & Bakery, 4569 E. Earl Young Road, just before 3 a.m. Friday.

A neighbor saw the glow of the blaze through the woods and called emergency responders.

The bakery was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

"It pretty much damaged the whole structure," Capt. Russell Edwards said. "So the building's probably a total loss."

No one was injured in the fire.

Owners Eric Schedler and Katie Zukof use organic, locally grown and fair trade ingredients in their artisan breads and granolas and bake in a brick, wood-fired oven.

The couple's baked goods and snacks are sold at farmers' markets and in local stores and restaurants.

The Bloomington Winter Farmers' Market advisory board stated in an email it plans to place a donation jar in Muddy Fork's usual spot at the market. The advisory board also plans to reach out to the community for contributions.
