March 27--WILKES-BARRE -- A volunteer Shickshinny firefighter charged earlier this week with intentionally setting two fires inside a vacant residence is serving a sentence for stealing ATVs, according to court records.
Court records say Corey Michael Davis, 20, of 30 Italy St., Mocanaqua, was sentenced by Luzerne County Judge Fred Pierantoni III on Jan. 18, 2013, to 18 months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program, which consists of electronic monitoring, intensive probation supervision, community service, fines and court costs, and drug and alcohol treatment.
In Davis' cases, Pierantoni imposed three months house arrest with electronic monitoring, court records say.
Davis pleaded guilty to two separate counts of conspiracy to commit theft prior to being sentenced.
State police at Shickshinny said Davis was one of three men who stole ATVs from proprieties in Hunlock and Plymouth townships in November 2011, and Hanover Township police said Davis conspired with another person to steal an ATV from a property on Tomko Avenue on Nov. 30, 2011, according to the criminal complaints.
Davis was charged Tuesday by state police at Shickshinny with setting two fires inside 28 Italy St. on Jan. 31. Davis resides in the other half of the double-block home at 30 Italy St., the complaint says.
Davis extinguished the first fire but responded to the second fire that was discovered by his mother, according to the complaint.
Davis allegedly admitted to setting the fires "because of the rush he got from the fires."
Despite the sentence imposed in January 2013, Davis was a member of the Shickshinny Volunteer Fire Company.
Fire Chief Kevin Morris said Davis joined the company about a year ago, noting "There was nothing in his background that would bar him from being a member of the fire company."
