April 04--TWIN FALLS -- Local emergency personnel rescued a teenager Thursday who was left dangling from a rock face after an apparent slide down a cliff while fishing.
The 15-year-old male was scrambling over a large cliff on a rock formation in Snake River Canyon while fishing with his girlfriend when he slipped and became trapped on a tiny ledge, said Twin Falls Sheriff's Sgt. Ken Mencl. Someone threw the boy a rope so he wouldn't fall further and he ended up dangling from the rock, Mencl said.
"He slid and got stuck where he couldn't move," Mencl said.
Emergency responders received the call about 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
The Twin Falls Fire Department used its ropes team to lead the rescue, Mencl said.
One firefighter spent much of the rescue, leaning over the side of the cliff, guiding ropes for another who rappelled down the side.
The boy appeared to be in good health following the ordeal, and just had some scrapes on his arms, Mencl said.
About 25 personnel from the fire department, sheriff's office, Twin Falls County Search and Rescue and Magic Valley Paramedics all participated.
The rescue effort closed Centennial Park for more than an hour.
