A teen at East Lake High School was pulled 75 feet in the air by stage rigging and required the help of Pinellas County Technical Rescue team to get down.

April 14--TARPON SPRINGS -- Two days after the musical "Peter Pan" closed, a 17-year-old boy was somehow pulled 75 feet off the floor in the East Lake High School auditorium Monday afternoon as students and staff were disassembling rigging involving ropes and counterbalance weights, fire officials said.

As he flew upward, the student, whose name was not available, struck his head, said Tom Jamison, the chief of East Lake Fire Rescue. The teenager was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Jamison said.

Staff and students were able to hoist the teen onto a catwalk, but they couldn't figure out how to get him down, Jamison said. The Pinellas County Technical Rescue team and East Lake firefighters then worked to bring the boy back down to the floor, Jamison said.
