Responders say a Mulberry Grove man died when the tractor he was using to remove a tree flipped over on him.

April 13--EFFINGHAM -- A Mulberry Grove man was killed instantly Saturday when a tractor he was driving flipped over on him while working on his property.

After attempting to use a chainsaw to cut down a tree to no success, Kenneth Zarecki, 65, hooked a chain to the tree and attempted to pull it over with his mid-size Ford N Tractor.

"He attached a long chain to the tree and his tractor and got a run at it," said Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen. "The tractor flipped and pinned him. He was killed instantly."

According to Bowen, farming accidents are not uncommon in the largely rural county.

"Over the years, I have gone to several tractor accidents," said Bowen. "People need to respect farm equipment."

Bowen pronounced Zarecki dead at the scene at 1:55 p.m. The accident remains under investigation by the Fayette County Coroners office. Mulberry Grove Fire Department responded to the scene for extrication.
