April 15--Authorities say a garage fire and one-vehicle crash involving two boys early Tuesday morning in south Wichita appear to be related.

Arson investigators are looking into whether a garage fire at 4533 S. Osage early Tuesday morning was intentionally set. Two boys, ages 17 and 12, who live at that address were later involved in a crash in the 3600 block of South West Street at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said.

The boys had been arguing, Lt. Jeff Gilmore said, and the 17-year-old intentionally crashed into a utility pole intending "to kill both himself and his brother."

The older boy told officers "God would decide who was evil and who would die," Lt. Steve Kenney said.

Both boys were taken to a local hospital for treatment, and the older brother was booked into the Juvenile Intake and Assessment Center after he was released from the hospital.

The fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to the structure and its contents, fire Capt. Stuart Bevis said.
